A striking French 19th century Louis XVI st. hand painted tulipwood and ormolu chest. The three drawer chest is raised by square tapered legs with fine foliate wrap around ormolu sabots and elegant rosettes. The straight frieze is centered by a foliate ormolu mount below the two "Sans Traverse" (without crossbar) drawers showcasing the masterful cabinet makers level of skill. The drawers display a wonderfully executed and extremely decorative painted landscape which spreads over both drawers and is framed within a beautiful ormolu fillet. Each drawer displays two foliate ormolu pulls with fine corner mounts and richly chased pierced ormolu keyhole escutcheons. The top drawer is decorated in the same manner and each side also displays similar wonderfully executed charming painted panels. Above is the original Orange Varois rectangular marble top with a fine mottled border. All original gilt and patina throughout. — Read Less
