Restoration was the period of design that followed Napoleon’s defeat at Waterloo. Also known as the Bourbon Restoration period as the House of Bourbon, made up of the executed brothers of Louis XVI, with Louis XVIII and Charles X, regained the French throne until the War of the Seventh Coalition.

Predominantly Neo-Classical in style, this period showed the beginnings of Romanticism in the arts. Heavy mahogany woods were replaced with woods in lighter tones. Smaller pieces of delicate furniture for small reception rooms and boudoirs came back into fashion. Demonstrating an elegance and refinement that was lacking in the grandeur of the Empire Period.
