A striking French mid 19th century Louis XVI st. onyx and ormolu clock signed "Raingo Frères, Paris". Raised by rectangular and circular reeded ormolu feet below the impressive rectangular base with rounded corners decorated with ormolu rosettes and rinceau style ormolu bands. A scrolled pierced ormolu mounts decorates the center façade, flanked by fluted columns with ormolu chandelles. The enamel dial above is encased with an ormolu floral and beaded border. All below a toupie shaped urn with a reeded tapered ormolu socle, beaded trim and an acorn finial. All original gilt. Raingo Frères, established in 1813 in Paris, specialized in the high precision clock making during the Empire and the Restoration period. Raingo is associated with many exquisite models of clocks and many of these designs were patented. They frequently worked in partnership with very prestigious cabinetmakers in particular François Linke. — Read Less
