(Transitional st.) - While France was still under the control of Louis XIV and considered one of the three phases of The Sun King’s influence on French style, the Transitional style was much lighter in form than its predecessors. Pieces created during this period displayed greater eccentricity and showed freedom or lines. Wrought iron elements, arabesque carvings, and grotesque scenes were used to invoke emotion and sometimes confusion. This period and style continued into the reign of King Louis XV.
