Patinated bronze supports with paw feet topped by satyr busts, accented with ormolu mounts and joined by X stretchers. The circular ormolu frieze is decorated with patinated bronze rings and borders. The stories about him are centered on his ability to charm all living things and even stones with his music. It was said that while Hermes had invented the lyre, Orpheus had perfected it.
Émile Louis Picault (1833-1915) was a renowned French sculptor and Bronzier, best known for works depicting allegorical subjects, and mythological heroes. Picault was a very prolific artist, and began to show his artwork at the Salon, beginning in 1863. The Salon, started in 1667, was the official art exhibition of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
