A striking French 19th century Neo-Classical st. patinated bronze and ormolu statue of Mercury, possibly by F. Barbedienne. The statue is raised on its original tripod base with handsome ormolu paw feet and large acanthus leaves. The three square legs are connected by a beautiful and most unique wooden ball with a decorative topie shaped finial above. At the top of each leg are finely detailed ormolu lion heads with outstanding bronze rings in their mouths and elegant palmettes centering the mottled fluted socle pedestal. The impressive and richly chased statue of Mercury above displays wings at his feet and elegant outstanding ormolu eternal flame and caduceus. — Read Less
