An important and extremely elegant French 19th century Louis XVI st. crouch mahogany and ormolu desk. The desk is raised on eight square tapered legs each with ormolu top caps,sabots and original casters. At each side are two drawer, 'sans traverse', displaying the warm and fine crouch mahogany grain continuing from one drawer to the other. Each drawer retains the original ormolu keyhole escutcheon pulls and has a dart shaped ormolu border and ormolu rosettes above. At the straight apron is a central drawer decorated with a sensational and high quality satin and burnished finished pierced scrolled ormolu mount above a beaded trim. At each side panel are handsome repeat butterfly designed mahogany panels displaying the warm grain and framed within an ormolu band and rosettes. At the right side is an additional pull out writing surface with two ormolu pulls. Above, framed in an ormolu gallery is the gilt tooled forest green fitted leather writing surface. The back is identically decorated with no drawers. All original gilt. — Read Less
