A handsome and extremely high quality Italian early 19th century white Carrara, Sienna marble, Onyx and Ormolu bust of Augustus of Prima Porta. This wonderfully detailed bust Augustus of Prima Porta displays a richly carved Sienna marble celebratory armor with stunning attention to detail. His likeness is intricately sculpted out of a solid piece of white Carrara marble, and displays a pensive expression and wonderfully detailed hair. The pedestal he is raised on is supported by a square base with berried laurel Ormolu feet and an impressive mottled foliate Ormolu support with a richly chased berried laurel band and central scrolled reserve with a fine seashell. The square tapered central support showcases the beautiful Onyx veins and displays remarkable pierced intertwining berried laurel branches with central richly chased acanthus leaves, a charming seashell, and lovely rosette. Above a mottled foliate Ormolu band and a beautiful pierced richly chased tied branch Ormolu reserve is the rectangular display shelf with a fine mottled border and beaded band.
