A stunning and museum quality Italian 19th century white Carrara marble statue of a charming street performer and his pet monkey. The statue is raised on it's original ebony pedestal with a square base, wrap around laurel bands and a fluted design. Above is the exceptional marble statue raised on a circular base with a wonderfully executed paved road design depicting the boy standing outside. At his feel is his richly sculpted and finely detailed pet monkey with cymbals in his hand, a collar around his neck and leaning on a drum. The boy wears sandals wrapped around his calves and richly sculpted shorts with wonderfully executed pleats and folds. He wears a shirt with a charming ribbon and his waist is wrapped in a cummerbund. The young boy is wearing a spectacular, intricately detailed sheep's skin coat and a fine wide brimmed hat. He holds one hand up in the air as he is performing and a trumpet at his side. Wonderful subject matter, outstanding attention to detail throughout.
