  • Randolph Rogers (1825 - 1892) was born in New York and began to study sculpture in Florence in 1848, before opening his own studio in Rome in 1851, where he lived the rest of his life until is death in 1892. His most famous pieces include "Nydia, the Blind Flower Girl of Pompeii", and "The Genius of Connecticut" which adorned the state capitol of Connecticut in Hartford. In 1873 Rogers became the first American to to be elected to Italy's Accademia di San Luca, and he was knighted in 1884 by King Umberto I
