A striking Italian 19th century Neo-Classical st. white Carrara marble bust of a lady, named La Sulamitide, on the original Vert de Patricia marble pedestal column. The maiden has finely detailed flowers at the base and a lovely necklace with prism shaped pendants. She wears her hair wrapped in a scarf accented by hanging coins with letters and a central ouroboros flanked by wings. The pedestal displays an octagonal base below a circular mottled socle column. The central support displays a striking and most decorative fluted spiral design. All below the top circular display tier.
This lovely bust was inspired by a poem named "La Sulamitide" written by Giuseppe Maria Ercolani and published in 1733. Sulamitide was the wife of Solomon and was also known as The Rose of Sharon. — Read Less
