An elegant and most unique Italian 18th century Chinoiserie st. hand painted patinated Wood, Gilt, Ormolu and leather Cartonnier Desk. This wonderful desk is raised on four tapered cabriole legs accented with foliate Ormolu sabots and Gilt bands leading up each leg and along the apron. Each leg displays intricately detailed hand painted foliate garlands which lead to wonderful landscape scenes of classical Asian figures seemingly attempting to capture monkeys in different ways. The hand painted scenes flow throughout the desk with the sides showcasing large scale depictions of classical figures and monkeys. The arbalest shaped front consist of five hand painted drawers with a different classical scenes on each drawer. The drawers all display stunning scrolled foliate pulls in a rich satin and burnished finish. The top is accented with a hand painted Gilt band of egg and dart patterns surround the rich red leather top. Above sits the charming Étagère book shelf that is hand painted with similar Asian scenes and monkeys. The book shelf consist of two lower drawers below three shelves accented with gilt bands throughout.
