A beautiful and very high quality English 18th century oil on canvas painting named Rosewood Castle, N. Wales by Julius Caesar Ibbetson circa 1781. The wonderfully executed painting depicts washerwomen cleaning clothes in the river near a Bridge at Rosewell Castle, North Wales. In the background is a beautiful blue sky with clouds while to the right is a charming house next to a large impressive tree. Set within its striking original giltwood frame with beautiful reeded and fluted designs with richly carved rosettes at each corner and a plaque at the center with the artist and painting name.
Julius Caesar Ibbetson (29th December 1759 – 13th October 1817) was a British 18th-century landscape and watercolor painter born in Leeds. According to his Memoir, his mother fell on the ice and went into premature labor, causing him to be delivered by cesarean section and resulting in a middle name he attempted to hide throughout his life. His watercolors are prized for their delicacy and sureness of line. — Read Less
