Each column is raised by an elegant square base with a beautiful mottled stepped design and ormolu accents. The central circular lightly tapered supports also display fine ormolu accents leading up to the richly chased handsome bust of Menelaus. In Greek mythology, Menelaus was a king of Mycenaean Sparta, the husband of Helen of Troy, and the son of Atreus and Aerope.
