A charming and very high quality true pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. patinated bronze and ormolu statues signed Carl Kauba. Each statue is raised by a fine mottled ormolu base below the elegant mottled circular and tapered fluted support. Above are the wonderfully executed busts of charming young winged cherubs each decorated with beautiful ormolu mounts at the front. One cherub displays a bow and arrow as a sign of protection while the other displays a lyre, two flutes, and a laurel branch as a sign of harmony. Each display wonderful captivating expressions with exceptional attention to detail throughout. All original gilt and patina throughout.
Carl Kauba Was an Austrian sculptor born in Vienna in 1865. His teachers were Karl Waschmann (1848-1905), known for his ivory sculptures and portrait plaquettes of contemporary celebrities, and Stefan Schwartz (1851-1924), who exhibited in Paris, including the Exposition Universelle of 1900 where he won a gold medal. — Read Less
