A charming and finely detailed true pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu and patinated Bronze andirons. Each andiron displays a seated cherub wearing oversized garments in the cold of winter and reaching back to feel the heat of the fire. Each cherub is seated atop an Ormolu plinth base supported by topie shaped feet. The alabaster shaped foliate front apron of the plinth is flanked by fluted columns and draping berried laurel vines. Above the apron is a central reserve of an oval crest decorated with flowing ribbons wrapped around an additional berried laurel vine. The top cap of the plinth has a beaded edge and serves as the seat for each cherub. — Read Less
