A striking and extremely decorative true pair of Continental 19th century Neo-Classical st. solid Mahogany and faux painted marble pedestal columns of telemons holding cushions. Each pedestal is raised by a wonderfully executed faux painted Verde Antico marble rectangular base where each telemon is standing. Each exquisitely detailed handsome bearded telemon statue is carved out of one solid piece of Mahogany and draped in an exceptional flowing garment tied around their waist. They are holding their arms above their heads supporting pillows with richly carved tassels at each corner. Sensational attention to detail throughout.
The Telamon in Roman architecture is the male counterpart of the caryatid used as columns. Like Atlas (plural Atlantes), they also pose as if supporting great weights and weight-bearing figures such as entablatures, balconies, or other projections of classical architecture but do not usually appear in an atlas pose.
