A unique and most elegant French 19th century Louis XVI st. fruitwood and charmwood desk. The desk is raised by slender square tapered legs, with fine fitted ormolu block sabots, lovely floral inlays and ormolu dentil design mottled top caps. Above each leg are striking draped ormolu garlands with a fine fabric design while the straight frieze displays a beautiful wrap around tied ribbon ormolu band. Each side displays wonderfully executed Marquetry à la Reine inlaid patterns framed within elegant tied fluted ormolu bands. At the front are two drawers each decorated in the same beautiful manner with ormolu keyhole escutcheons and richly chased berried laurel pulls. Above is the original fitted leather writing surface with a fine foliate gold tooled design framed within a mottled ormolu gallery. All original gilt throughout.
