An extremely decorative pair of Italian early 18th century Baroque period Giltwood armchairs. Each wonderfully detailed armchair is raised on front cabriole legs displaying stunning acanthus leaf and twisted ribbon carvings leading to bold rams heads which flank the apron. At the back are straight tapered fluted legs with sabot shaped feet and leading to foliate carvings below the back supports. The frieze has a bottom twisted ribbon trim with an etched Coeur de Rai design below a beaded band. The arms have etched acanthus leaves leading to the hand rest showcasing fierce lion heads before the armrest with additional twisted ribbon carvings and scrolled acanthus leaves. The violin shaped backs are highly detailed with the same inner beaded trim and outer twisted ribbon design, and the top crown being centered by a crest with a female mask. — Read Less
