A stunning pair of Italian 19th century patinated Bronze, Brocatelle and Black Belgian marble plaques of Mars and Minerva. Each most decorative square plaque is frame within a thick and mottled Black Belgian Marble border surrounding the Brocatelle marble background. At the center of each plaque is a intricately detailed and richly chased Bronze medallion, with Minerva (Athena) to the left and Mars (Ares) to the right. Mars the Greek god of War and Minerva the goddess of Wisdom and Strategy, represent the eternal struggle between aggression and strategy, war and diplomacy, or brute force and calculated wisdom. With Minerva defeating Mars in the story of the Trojan War.
