A spectacular pair of 18th century, circa 1740, Italian Tuscan commodes in walnut and ebonized fruitwood. Each chest is raised by tapered circular legs above an ebonized ball and top block. The two drawers "Sans Traverse' have a quarter veneered inlay with a burned veneered border to simulate a twisted ribbon design. The drawers are decorated by ormolu handles and keyhole escutcheons. The top drawer has an elegant marquetry of a swaging beaded garland in ebonized fruitwood with two ormolu drawer pulls. The sides are likewise decorated. The top with a quarter veneered walnut inlay has the same twisted ribbon inlaid border and mottled edge. At the back is an old Antique Dealers label from Bolognia, Italy dated from the late 18th century. — Read Less
