A most impressive and high quality pair of French 19th century Louis XIV st. ormolu and Portoro marble candelabra lamps signed Maison Bagues. The pair of six arm lamps are raised on hexagon shaped Portoro marble bases below an ormolu mount in a stunning satin and burnished finish of scrolled designs on a hammer background, and each corner adorned with decorative acanthus leaves above a concave band. The six electrified S scrolled arms lead to handsome eagle heads below a reeded designed candle cup and saucer. The six arms surround the central triangular tapered fut which leads to the original finial with a cascading water design.
Maison Bagues Founded in Auvergne, France, in 1840 by Nicolas Baguès, the company originally specialized in the creation of liturgical bronzes. Thanks to Baguès’ expansion into bronze lighting and the popularization of electricity, the business quickly found success. At the turn of the century, their chandeliers captured international interest, and soon Baguès began exporting to London, New York, Rome, Brussels, and Cairo. The company is best known for introducing to the world their now signature collections of finely crafted iron, gilt and crystal chandeliers and wall sconces Parrots & Foliage. — Read Less
