A stunning and extremely high quality pair of French late 18th/early 19th century Louis XV st. rosewood, ormolu, and Rosso Levanto marble commodes. Each important two drawer chest is raised by elegant cabriole legs with fine pierced fitted foliate ormolu sabots. At the center are two drawers sans traverse (without crossbar) showcasing the cabinet maker's high skill set. Each drawer displays a superb and most unique double bombee and scalloped shape with exquisite wonderfully executed geometric inlaid rosewood designs with sensational central sunburst veneers. The drawers display beautiful richly chased scrolled foliate ormolu handles, striking foliate keyhole escutcheons and open to reveal their original hardware. At the corners are impressive finely detailed ormolu mounts with lovely smooth central cabochons amidst exquisite flowers and foliate movements in a rich satin and burnished finish. Each side also displays additional most impressive inlaid geometric designs with a continuation of the remarkable and most decorative bombee movement.
