A beautiful and most elegant pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu and Baccarat Crystal Marie Antoinette chandeliers. Each six arm six light chandelier is centered by a stunning solid Baccarat crystal ball and Crystal rosette hanging from an Ormolu acorn finial. The finely detailed scrolled spiraling arms are adorned with lovely cut tear drop, prism cut, and rosette Crystal pendants. The arms are connected by charming swaging beaded garlands leading to foliate bobeches and below the mottled candle cups. Six impressive beaded garlands lead upwards toward the central Ormolu tier accented with octagonal Crystals. The Crystal encased central fut continues to the top crown surrounded by Crystal garlands originating from the top of the central Crystal and Ormolu tier. The wonderful top crown is beautifully decorated with tear drop, rosette, and prism cut Crystal pendants hanging from the Ormolu spray.

In 1764 King Louis XV of France gave permission to found a glassworks in the town of Baccarat. Production consisted of window panes, mirrors and stemware until 1816 when the first crystal oven went into operation. By that time over 3000 workers were employed at the site.
Baccarat was famous and requested by many royal houses and received its first royal commission in 1823. This began a lengthy line of commissions for royalty and heads of state throughout the world. In 1855 Baccarat won its first gold medal at the Worlds Fair in Paris after which they began to mark their creations towards the end of the 19th century.
