A stunning and extremely high quality pair of French 19th century Louis XVI st. Napoleon III period ormolu lidded urns, attributed to Paul Sormani. Each impressive and large scale urn is raised by a square base with elegant concave corners and a fine mottled border below the striking fluted socle shaped pedestal support with a richly chased wrap around berried laurel band. The body displays a central finely detailed cameo flanked by lovely interlocking wrap around patterns and exquisite wonderfully executed swaging blooming flower garlands draped from delicate hooks and leading to superb Greek key shaped handles at each side. The removable lid displays spiral fluted designs with palmettes centered by a spectacular final with charming fine detailed flowers and most charming richly chased love birds.
Paul Sormani (1817-1877) One of the most renowned 19th century French cabinet makers and Bronzier of the highest quality. Sormani participated in major international exhibitions of 1855, 1862 and 1867. Awarded a bronze medal in 1849 and a first-class medal in 1855. At the Universal Exhibition of 1867, his work has been described as “A quality of workmanship of the highest order". — Read Less
