A handsome pair of French 19th century Louis Philippe period Ormolu, Onyx and Wrought Iron andirons. The pair are raised on tripod shaped bases with three pawed supports decorated by palmettes. The supports flank a scalloped shaped apron below the triangular mottled socle. The socle is decorated by acanthus leave and a Coeur de Rai designed trim. Above are the elegant circular tapered Onyx columns decorated by Ormolu swaging berried laurel garlands held by two bows. The column leads to a top ormolu finial in the shape of a lidded urn with an acorn at the top. The andirons have Ormolu side rails with a bottom mottled Coeur de Rai trim and a top berried laurel band. In the center are baluster shaped spindles. At the end of the rail and before the wrought iron log holders are additional tapered circular Ormolu decorative columns which are designed to hold any logs from falling forward. — Read Less
