A magnificent and extremely impressive pair of French 18th century Louis XV st. ebonized fruitwood, ormolu and Brèche d'Alep marble two drawer commodes, likely by Charles Cressent. Each powerful chest is raised by handsome lightly curved legs with richly chased pierced foliate fitted sabots. Striking water flora extend up each leg in a charming pattern. The patterns unite at each side creating a intertwining design. The water flora also extends along the beautiful drawers adorned with foliate pulls and intricately detailed swaging floral garlands. At the center are beautiful and wonderfully executed blossoming flowers encasing the keyhole escutcheons and flanked by stunning gadroons. Each corner displays large impressive pierced ormolu mounts with acanthus leaves, detailed flowers and elegant smooth cabochons. Above are the original Brèche d'Alep marble tops with fabulous and most decorative double mottled borders. Striking satin and burnished finish and all original gilt throughout. — Read Less
