A striking pair of American 19th century Louis XV st. giltwood chandeliers, stamped Caldwell. Each Italian inspired six arm chandelier is stamped 'C' for Edward F. Caldwell, and is centered by an elegant reeded bottom finial below exceptional richly carved scrolled foliate acanthus leaves. The lightly curved arms each branch out from a wrap around mottled band and are adorned with additional finely detailed acanthus leaves leading to beaded and reeded bobeches. The mottled turned bodies display additional foliate designs below the original chains and reeded mottled giltwood canopies.

Edward F. Caldwell & Co., of New York City, was one of the premier designers and manufacturers of light fixtures and decorative metalwork from the late 19th to mid-20th century. Founded in 1895 by Edward F. Caldwell (1851–1914), the firm left a legacy of custom designed and finely made lanterns, chandeliers, ceiling and wall fixtures, floor and table lamps,that can be found today in many metropolitan area churches, public buildings, offices, clubs, and residences including, the White House (1902 renovation), St. Patrick's Cathedral,New York Public Library, and Rockefeller center. — Read Less
