A stunning French turn-of-the-century Louis XVI st. patinated bronze and ormolu statue of Diana the Huntress and her dog, signed F. Hamar. The statue is raised by an elegant oblong base with a fine mottled border and a wonderfully executed ground texture. Above is the beautiful Diana the Huntress draped in a remarkable flowing dress holding a bow in her right hand while shielding the sun from her eyes with the other. Her loyal companion is running through the foliage at her side with a fallen pheasant behind them. Wonderful attention to detail and all original patina throughout.
Fernand Joseph Job Hamar, (1869 - 1943) was a French sculptor born in Vendôme who lost his hearing as a child during the Franco-Prussian war. He entered the Institut National de Jeunes Sourds de Paris, where Hamar learned the art of sculpting.
