An elegant and unique French mid 19th century Louis XV st. Ormolu inkwell/lamp. The inkwell is raised by a kidney shaped ormolu base with pierced designs in a rich satin and burnished finish. At the center is a young patinated bronze boy wearing period clothing and resting one leg on a rock while at the side of a stream. He is gazing into the horizon while putting on his sandal and standing in front of a tree which splits into two large scrolled branches ending with a candle cup and saucer. Flanking the young boy are two small Blanc de Chine porcelain ink jars which are decorated by a fluted bottom design and a grotesque mask at both sides. The electrified candles above are hidden behind an adjustable screen which was meant to reduce the heat of the candle all below an attractive ormolu finial.
