An extremely high quality French 19th century Verdigris bronze statue, signed Moreau. The statuary is raised by a circular mottled base with a wonderfully executed ground like design where the hunter and his two dogs stand. The hunter is dressed in classical attire with a sword at his hip and a French horn held up to his lips. His two handsome hounds stand at his feet. Wonderful facial expressions and attention to details throughout. All original patina.

Mathurin Moreau (1822 – 1912) was a renowned French sculptor. Moreau was born in Dijon, first exhibited in the 1848 Salon, and finally received a medal of honor from the Salon in 1897. He was made mayor of the 19th arrondissement of Paris, and in 1912 had a street named in his honor. His work can be seen at the Palais du Luxembourg, the Musée des Arts et Métiers, Musée d’Orsay and other locations around the world. — Read Less
