A beautiful French 19th century Transitional st. Mahogany, ormolu, vernis Martin and Coquillier de Bilbao marble commode à porte chest. The one door chest is raised by elegant cabriole legs with fine foliate sabots with delicate chutes leading up to foliate mounts. Above the arbalest frieze decorated with a central pierced foliate ormolu reserve is the single door displaying an exceptional hand painted and vernis Martin center depicting a charming outside scene of a young man courting a beautiful young lady and teaching her to play guitar framed within a fine wrap around foliate ormolu band. The curved sides also display exceptional hand painted and vernis Martin scenes of wonderfully executed trees with a gate at a water's edge also framed within a delicate wrap around ormolu foliate band. The door opens to reveal a single shelf and finished inside of the door with a recessed panel and original hardware.
