An extremely elegant and high quality French 19th century Transitional st. mahogany, marble and ormolu two drawer chest. The chest is raised by handsome cabriole legs with striking wrap around lion paw designed ormolu sabots with an acanthus leaf. Leading up the front legs are beautiful twisted designed ormolu chutes which extend upwards to a circular cabochon. At the center are the two drawers "sans traverse" (without crossbar), showcasing the masterful cabinet makers skill set. Each drawer displays ormolu berried laurel and tied ribbon keyhole escutcheons and striking berried laurel pulls. The bottom drawer with an arbalest shaped frieze is centered by a richly chased pierced ormolu mount. At each corner are stunning ormolu mounts in a rich satin and burnished finish with swaging berried laurel garlands. Above is the beautiful original Sarrancolin marble which mimics the beautiful shaped of the chest below fitted within a mottled border and framed by a stunning twisted and beaded ormolu band. — Read Less
