A charming and high quality French 19th century Ormolu and Alabastro Dorato marble statue of Le Baiser Donné, signed Houdon. The statue is raised by an elegant circular Alabastro Dorato marble base with a fine bottom stepped band and a striking mottled socle shaped pedestal support. Atop the pedestal is a most romantic Ormolu statue which depicts a handsome man kissing a beautiful woman while holding her in his arms.
Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828) A prominent French Neoclassical sculptor born in Versailles. Houdon is famous for his portrait busts and statues of philosophers, inventors and political figures. In 1785 he sculpted Benjamin Franklin upon his invitation to Mount Vernon where Franklin modeled for him. He was made a Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 1804. — Read Less
