A stunning and palatially scaled French 19th century Napoleon III period Ebony, brass, pewter, tortoiseshell, ormolu and oil on board painting Cabinet de Château, stamped S.T. The extremely impressive and high quality cabinet is raised by six elegant lightly curved supports with striking and finely detailed ormolu masks of Bacchus and an inlaid brass fillet. A most decorative thick ormolu band with a gadroon designs extends along the base below a fine intertwined and smooth cabochon band. The magnificent central door displays a masterfully executed oil on board painting of Françoise Marie de Bourbon, the Duchess of Orleans, framed within a lovely foliate ormolu band. She is seated and is wearing a beautiful dress and draped in an ermine trimmed cloak with her left hand resting on her crown on a pillow. The door displays exceptional corner mounts with intricately detailed Zephyr blowing the wind amidst charming floral movements, palmettes, and fine acanthus leaves. At the bottom of the door is an outstanding recessed panel with meticulously inlaid brass and pewter foliate designs. The panel is framed within a foliate ormolu border with most impressive finely detailed ormolu leaves and block rosettes at each side in a rich satin and burnished finish. At each side are two additional slender doors with most decorative brass and pewter inlaid foliate designs and the same superb large leaves and block rosettes. Each side displays a recessed Rosewood panel with a fine brass fillet and framed within a lovely ormolu band and spectacular intricately chased ormolu mounts. The monumental top crown displays a fine block designed ormolu band, a striking stepped design, and an elegantly curved top. The top crown is adorned with richly chased female masks and finely detailed interlocking ormolu bands with floral accents.
Françoise Marie de Bourbon, the Duchess of Orleans (4 May 1677 - 1 February 1749) was the youngest daughter of Louis XIV. She married Philippe d'Orléans at the Palais de Versailles. As her new husband was a legitimate grandson of a king, Françoise assumed the rank of petite-fille de France ("Grand-Daughter of France"), and was addressed as Royal Highness. — Read Less
