A stunning and high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu and Rouge Griotte marble bust, named Dorine and signed by Léopold Harzé. The bust is raised by an elegantly curved Rouge Griotte marble base with fine Ormolu topie shaped feet. Four striking Ormolu mounts lead up from each foot and display beautiful richly chased rosettes and exceptional interlocking geometric patterns. The beautiful lady, named Dorine, is displayed in a period dress and has her hair tied back. She looks to her right with her arms crossed. Wonderful attention to detail throughout.
Léopold Harzé (1831-1893) - A Belgian sculptor who worked in Brussels. Harzé presented more than a dozen pieces of his work in the 1868 Paris exhibition. His most recognized works are: "The Gossips", "Dorine" "The Quarrelsome Blacksmith", "Neapolitan Gypsy Dance" and "The Bottle". Much of his work is preserved in the Musée de la Vie Wallonne, in Liège. — Read Less
