An elegant French 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu and Brèche Violette marble statue of L'Automne signed by Rancoulet. The statue is raised by a striking and uniquely shaped Brèche Violette marble square base with most decorative concave corners and a bottom ormolu fillet. The mottled marble socle pedestal displays an ormolu plaque at the front inscribed AGE D'OR with a fine berried laurel branch. The beautiful winged maiden above depicts Autumn and is draped in a wonderfully executed flowing fabric while seated on wheat sprigs. She hold wheat and a berried laurel branch in her hand and wears her hair in an updo.
Ernest Rancoulet (1870–1915) Born in Bordeaux, France. Rancoulet was a renowned bronzier. He was a student of Lequesne and attended the municipal school of Bordeaux. He is best known for his Neoclassical bronze figures of mythological creatures, society women, and athletes. Rancoulet participated in the Paris Salon for several years, regularly exhibiting his elegant figurines and portrait busts. The sculptor also frequently inscribed mythical verse onto his works, notably including Ovid's Metamorphoses.
