A stunning French 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu and Baccarat Marie Antoinette chandelier. This nine arm Marie Antoinette style chandelier is centered by a spectacularly cut Baccarat Crystal ball surrounded by a ring of tear drop shaped Crystals with three rosettes on the exterior. Each of the elegantly scrolled arms are supported by four Ormolu chains accompanied by four exceptional arrays of interlocking beaded garlands that surround a beautiful dagger Crystal centerpiece draped in tear drop ornaments. The bobeches of each arm are tastefully decorated with tear drop Crystals as well as additional interlocking beaded Crystal garlands extending to each arm. The four chains lead up to a stunning central Ormolu tier accented by elongated Crystals, rosettes and blossoming flowers. Above is the exceptional top crown decorated with Ormolu and Crystal sprays connected by swaging Crystal garlands.

In 1764 King Louis XV of France gave permission to found a glassworks in the town of Baccarat. Production consisted of window panes, mirrors and stemware until 1816 when the first crystal oven went into operation. By that time over 3000 workers were employed at the site.
Baccarat was famous and requested by many royal houses and received its first royal commission in 1823. This began a lengthy line of commissions for royalty and heads of state throughout the world. In 1855 Baccarat won its first gold medal at the Worlds Fair in Paris after which they began to mark their creations towards the end of the 19th century.
