A stunning and monumentally scaled French 19th century Louis XVI st. Ormolu and Baccarat Crystal chandelier. This impressive thirty-two light chandelier is centered by a wonderful Crystal sphere hanging from the base of the frame. The three levels of scrolling arms consisting of Crystal daggers and electrified bulbs are tastefully decorated by swaging Crystal garlands, tear drop Crystals, and lattice cut candle cups with hanging Crystal pendants. Moving upward on the central fut above the top tier of scrolling arms are three sets of Ormolu sprays with additional swaging Crystal garlands and tear drop cut Crystals hanging below. The impressive top crown showcases another larger scale Ormolu spray adorned with an array of baguette cut Crystals. Within the spray of the top crown is a gathering of 'C' scrolled bands that encases the mottled peak of the fut. — Read Less

In 1764 King Louis XV of France gave permission to found a glassworks in the town of Baccarat. Production consisted of window panes, mirrors and stemware until 1816 when the first crystal oven went into operation. By that time over 3000 workers were employed at the site.
Baccarat was famous and requested by many royal houses and received its first royal commission in 1823. This began a lengthy line of commissions for royalty and heads of state throughout the world. In 1855 Baccarat won its first gold medal at the Worlds Fair in Paris after which they began to mark their creations towards the end of the 19th century.
