A most elegant French 19th century Louis XVI st. Mahogany, Tulipwood and ormolu desk attributed to François Linke. The beautiful kidney shaped three drawer desk is raised by fine slender circular tapered legs with beautiful foliate topie shaped ormolu feet, mottled foliate ormolu top caps, and remarkable fitted ormolu rosettes. The apron displays a central drawer decorated with an exquisite finely detailed pierced ormolu plaque of Bacchanalian cherubs playing while holding vines and staffs, and a fine mottled Coeur de Rai ormolu border flanked by single drawers at each side decorated with richly chased berried laurel pulls set on a stunning inlaid parquetry background. Above is the original gold tooled leather writing surface framed within a beautiful Mahogany border and wrap around mottled ormolu gallery.
François Linke (1855-1946) Renowned 19th Century Parisian Ébéniste. Linke created historical interpretations of Louis XV and Louis XVI styles. He displayed at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1900 where he received a gold medal. — Read Less
