An elegant and high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. Mahogany and ormolu desk signed by Maison Jansen. The two drawer desk is raised by slender fluted circular tapered legs ending with fine fitted foliate ormolu sabots and lovely reeded and mottled top caps. The drawers at the apron are decorated with delicate octagonal ormolu keyhole escutcheons set on a beautiful Mahogany background with a striking mottled and hammered wrap around ormolu band and separated by a superb mask of Zephyrus (god of the west wind) also repeated at the back. Above is the original fitted brown leather writing surface framed within an elegant wrap around mottled ormolu gallery.
Jean-Henri Jansen (1854-1929) - Maison Jansen had an outstanding reputation internationally. In 1885 Jansen was awarded a Silver Medal at both the 1883 Amsterdam Exhibition and the 1889 Éxposition Universelle in Paris. Jansen’s commissions included pieces for William III of the Netherlands, Alfonso XII of Spain and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Maison Jansen internationally renowned and were clients of François Linke. — Read Less
