A most impressive French 19th century Louis XVI st. freestanding Giltwood and marble console. The console is raised on four circular tapered fluted legs with decorative chandelles with foliate sprays atop of mottled turned buns with berried laurel decorations. The legs are joined by a triple 'C' shaped mottled stretcher with a central Urn of Prosperity decorated by swaging floral garlands all above topie shaped supports. The 'D' shaped apron has a most attractive young woman's face with her hair tied up and wearing a band with a star in her hair. The young maiden has flowers decorating her hair while draped designs are flanking the reserve. A large central berried laurel garland is held by ribbons amidst foliate scrolls. The central recessed panel is flanked by rectangular rosettes set in blocks above the legs. At both ends of the console are pierced panels with large central medallions with laurel branches held by large and richly carved tied ribbons flanked by decorative blossoming flower branches. The upper portion of the console is extended further than the lower portion below so that the marble touches the wall without having the legs hit the baseboard, a wonderful and uncommon feature.
