A spectacular and important French 19th century Louis XVI st. tulipwood, ormolu, Vert de Patricia marble and Japanese black lacquer cabinet. The Meuble à Hauteur d’Appui cabinet is raised by fine square mottled ormolu feet below the beautiful arbalest shaped apron with striking foliate ormolu designs and impressive scrolled eagle heads. The two doors above are each decorated with stunning wonderfully executed Japanese black lacquered panels depicting charming finely detailed scenes of the Japanese country side with houses, personages and horses. The doors open to reveal two adjustable shelves and the high quality top to bottom lock with a rare and most unique curved design at the top. Each panel is framed within an exceptional foliate ormolu band with striking block rosettes at each corner, lovely foliate ormolu keyhole escutcheons and a superb most impressive richly chased central mask of a bearded man all set on an extraordinary wonderfully executed inlaid herringbone background. Each side is decorated in the same manner. Above a mottled egg and dart ormolu band is the original Vert de Patricia marble top. The back of the cabinet has a partially effaced retailers brand stamp ‘Ch Deville J. Maubert SUCR 281 Avenue de L’Opra et rue Gaillon, Paris” and the bronze mounts are stamped ‘MB’.
