A charming and high quality French 19th century Louis XV st. tulipwood and kingwood bureau plat desk, possibly by G. Durand. The desk is raised by four elegant slender cabriole legs with striking wrap around fitted foliate ormolu sabots with their original casters. A fine ormolu chute leads up each leg to impressive finely chased ormolu corner mounts with a lovely smooth cabochon in a rich satin and burnished finish. The scalloped shaped frieze displays three drawers each displaying foliate ormolu keyhole escutcheons and exceptional floral marquetry which extends along the sides and back framed within a butterfly veneered design. Above is the original leather writing surface framed within a mottled ormolu wrap around gallery. — Read Less
