A spectacular and extremely high quality French mid 19th century Louis XV st. kingwood, tulipwood, and ormolu grandfather clock. The clock is raised by a fine scalloped shaped kingwood base with a mottled wrap around ormolu band and handsome richly chased lion paw feet. The impressive and most decoratively shaped body displays elegant lattice designs framed within a lovely ormolu border with a striking intricately detailed foliate central ormolu mount. At the center is a display window retaining its original glass pane showing the stunning maiden and sunburst designed ormolu pendulum inside and framed within a superb pierced gadroon and foliate ormolu mount in a rich satin and burnished finish and flanked by exquisite lions heads at each side. The front opens by a key at the right to reveal the original pendulum and all original hardware. Leading upwards is an additional most decorative lattice design below a unique mount with two charming cherubs flanked by large acanthus leaf movements. The enameled dial above displays fine pierced foliate ormolu hands with Roman hour numbers and Arabic minute numbers encased in a lovely scalloped border. Beautiful scrolled elements flank the dial decorated with intricately detailed and most charming flowers with trees seemingly grown upwards to the top bust finial of a beautiful maiden.
