A most unique French 19th century Louis XIV st. Giltwood and Needlepoint freestanding screen. This wonderful fire screen is raised by a trio of Giltwood scrolled foliate legs on casters leading to a gadrooned central stem and the richly carved frame. The frame displays stunning foliate scrolls and geometric patterns, as well as palmette reserves at the four corners. The freestanding Needlepoint Wool tapestry depicts Charles IX of France sitting in his royal apartments with his wife Elisabeth of Austria kneeling at his feet and holding his hand.
