A handsome and high quality French early 19th century Empire period mahogany and ormolu dressing chest/vanity, signed Chapuis. The chest is raised by fine rounded front supports below impressive columns which extend up each side. At the center are four drawers, the lower three each display elegant richly chased rosette pulls and central finely detailed foliate keyhole escutcheons. The beautiful flamed mahogany grain follows over each drawer. The top drawer is flanked by fine lyre mounts and displays a stunning and intricately detailed central eagle framed within a graceful berried laurel wreath. The drawer opens to reveal it original organization compartments. Above is the original mirror plate with striking columns at each side with mottled ormolu plinths, richly chased capitals with an acorn finial and stunning swan shaped candle holders in a wonderful satin and burnished finish. The mirror is adjustable, moving forwards and backwards via its original mechanism and can also be tilted. All original gilt throughout. — Read Less
