A striking and most impressive French 19th century 1st Empire period mahogany, brass, ormolu, and white Carrara marble console. The freestanding console is raised by a thick bottom tier showcasing the beautiful mahogany grain. At the center is a superb richly chased pierced reserve of a maiden amidst branches flanked by most decorative intertwined berried laurel branches and framed within a fine brass fillet. Two lightly tapered circular columns lead up the front each decorated with finely detailed mottled foliate plinths and striking foliate capitals in rich satin and burnished finishes. At the back is the original mirror backplate flanked by mahogany columns also decorated with an elegant brass fillet. Above each column are richly chased ormolu floral wreaths centering two drawers at the apron, each adorned with the same beautiful reserve of a maiden flanked by intertwined berried laurel branches. Above is the original white Carrara marble top. — Read Less
