A stunning and high quality French 18th century Louis XV st. Ormolu and Baccarat Crystal chandelier. This six arm six light chandelier is centered by a finely cut Crystal ball with a rosette and three Crystal beads hanging from a topie shaped bottom Crystal finial with Ormolu accents. Above the bottom finial is a round mottled edge Ormolu base which supports the six scrolling arms. Each arm is decorated with an exceptional collection of scalloped, rosette, and prism cut Crystal pendants throughout. Between each pair of bobeches is a delicately cut Crystal dagger with additional Crystal pendants hanging below. The large scaled Crystal dagger center piece is protected by the surrounding arms of the cage. The cage is framed with three scrolling Ormolu arms decorated with a beautiful array of rosette, scalloped, and prism cut Crystal pendants that leads up and connecting below the top crown. The top crown is decorated by a mottled Crystal base reserve with a gentle Ormolu spray above containing hanging rosette and scalloped Crystal pendants.

In 1764 King Louis XV of France gave permission to found a glassworks in the town of Baccarat. Production consisted of window panes, mirrors and stemware until 1816 when the first crystal oven went into operation. By that time over 3000 workers were employed at the site.
Baccarat was famous and requested by many royal houses and received its first royal commission in 1823. This began a lengthy line of commissions for royalty and heads of state throughout the world. In 1855 Baccarat won its first gold medal at the Worlds Fair in Paris after which they began to mark their creations towards the end of the 19th century.
