An exceptional Continental 19th century Grand Tour Period patinated Bronze, Black Belgian, and Rosso Alicante marble statue of Perseus and Medusa. This handsome statue of Perseus having vanquished Medusa is based on a model by sculptor Benvenuto Cellini in 1552, which currently resides at the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence. The statue is raised by a black Belgian marble socle below a Rosso Alicante square tapered column with a Belgian black capital supporting the patinated Bronze statue. The statue showcases Perseus standing on the decapitated corpse of Medusa, holding her head aloft with an outstretched arm, and holding the pommel of his sword in the other hand. Perseus wears a sash across his chest engraved with the original sculptor's name in Latin, and the date of the original "Perseus" by Benvenuto Cellini was sculpted. — Read Less
